My Semester Blog: Audrey Quick

Hi everyone! My name is Audrey Quick, and I am currently pursuing a degree in Social Science, intending to become a high school history teacher. This is my junior year at Athens State, and I am excited to continue learning more about education throughout this semester.

The 5Cs—Committed, Caring, Courageous, Conscious, and Centered—describe the kind of teacher I want to be. I feel strongest in being Caring, Committed, and Centered. I’ve always been someone who encourages others and wants them to feel supported, and I know I’ll bring that same energy to my classroom. I also take my own learning seriously and want to pass that love of learning on to my students. On top of that, I think I naturally have a calm, steady presence, which I hope will help me create a positive classroom environment.

The qualities I know I still need to grow in are Courage and Consciousness. Sometimes I hold back from pushing myself out of my comfort zone, and I want to work on being braver when it comes to persisting through challenges for every student. I also want to be more intentional and aware of how I interact with students, ensuring every voice is respected and valued. I think I have a solid start with the 5Cs, and the ones I’m still building just give me more room to grow as a future teacher.

As I begin this course, I look forward to exploring what makes education meaningful and how it can inspire future generations. Several years ago, my parents introduced me to the film Dead Poets Society, which follows a charismatic literature teacher who encourages his students to view their futures in new ways and pursue their dreams. Below, I’ve shared a short video that highlights memorable clips from the film.
