Trends Within the Classroom

One trend that seems to be taking over the classroom is the overuse of technology. I understand that getting children accustomed to technology needs to take place. We live in a digital age, but the excessive use of it is a bit alarming. I began substitute teaching at the beginning of this semester for the elementary schools in my area. Children in kindergarten classes might sit on their laptops all day, working on assignments. I understand some aspect of this might be teachers wanting to make the day easy for me, but when walking around the schools, many traditional teachers are doing the same. I remember when I was in elementary school, some of my favorite assignments were group projects, reading books as a class, and learning from the teacher's instructions. There should be more of a balance, in my opinion. Most of the day should be classroom instruction carried out by teachers, with time allocated to assignments done on Chromebooks or iPads.
